(i)      Characteristics of the subordinate : Whether subordinates can be motivated by external stimulus or they are internally motivated and self-confident. In case, followers need external stimulus, leaders direct their followers in detail and plan, organize, direct, control, coordinate and induces motivating factors to achieve goals. However, if the followers are inspired, he uses supportive or participative style.

(ii)     Nature of Work : The leadership style also depends upon the fact whether the work is of routine nature or innovative.
