It was the first game of the season and the most attention was on Chelsea as according to media and experts they look the favorites to win the title. Even Jose Mournho has said last season that wait for one season and we’ll be up there challenging for the title. Chelsea has made some significant signing this season in Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and a return of Didier Drogba. Last season Chelsea had clearly lacked one thing and that was world class striker but now they have two in Diego Costa and Drogba with Lukaku, Eto’o and Ba moved on. Mourniho also purchased Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas for departed Frank Lampard, overall this Chelsea squad look pretty well equipped and ready for the challenge.
It was a Chelsea debut for Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas and Chelsea came up with a strong line up with Eden Hazard, Oscar, Andre Schurrle, Matic, Terry, Cahill, Ivanovic, Azpilicueta and Thibaut Courtois on goal in place of Petr Cech. Amazingly it was Burnley who scored the opener. A Long range strike from Scott Arfield had no answers from 22 year old Courtois. But soon Chelsea responded with Diego Costa scoring a goal from rebound. Then came a moment that showed the brilliance of Fabregas, as he assisted second goal of Chelsea which was scored by Andre Schurrle. Later it was Ivanovic who scored from the corner and the game looked done and dusted by the end of first half.
Second half ended without any goals from either side and the game ended 1-3 , a convincing victory for Chelsea and great Debut for star players Costa, Fabregas and also of course a second debut for Chelsea legend Didier Drogba who will get plenty of game time as Chelsea challenge on 4 fronts. Overall it looks like it will be a great season for Chelsea in England and Europe as Jose Mourinho try to prove himself as the ‘Special One’.
