The Tech Talk segment covers gadgets that catch our eye! Today we covered the ‘Nexus 5’, smart phone. Since there are no new smart phone launches this month like every smart phone buyer, we too decided to go in for one of the top five smart phones launched in 2013.
Spotted: The Nexus 5 was first spotted when Google put up a video of the Android 4.4 KitKat statue where a Google employee was spotted holding a device that looked like the Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 was launched in India on 21 November.
India Price at launch: The 16GB version was launched for Rs 28,999, while the 32GB version for Rs 32,999 on Google’s Play Store. The Nexus 5 was the first Google device to launch with Android 4.4 KitKat.
Dimensions and stats:
Screen: It also comes with a 4.95-inch screen with 1920×1080 display which came to 445 pixels per inch. Camera: The camera is a simple rear camera, at 8 megapixels with Optical Image Stablisation. Google also introduced some new settings for the camera such as HDR+ mode, 360 degree shot. HDR+ will take a burst of pictures in one shot and combine them to give you the best possible picture under the light settings. The Optical Image stabilization also ensures that even if your hands are shaking a bit the image won’t be blurry. The Photosphere feature will let users take a full 360 degree picture now, which does look pretty cool.
Processor: It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core chipset clocked at 2.3GHz and Adreno 330 clocked at 450MHz for Graphic. It has 2GB RAM.
Battery life: The smartphone also comes with a 2,300 mAH battery with Google promising talk time up to 17 hours and Internet time up to 8.5 hours on Wi-Fi, up to 7 hours on LTE. It supports wireless charging.
Connectivity: The smartphone also supports the newer Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4G/5G) 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, comes with NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 (Low energy version).
Other software features: ‘OK Google’ feature where the Google Now feature can be used to set commands and do things like make a call, send an SMS, even play music. Users can link a set of keyword commands to Google Now search and the phone will do the rest.
Colors available: Black and White.
Verdict: Not too flashy, light weight, great operating system and available at decent price range. The only 8mp camera and no Micro SD slot were the dimensions where improvements could be made. Overall a decent buy, is what we award this Smart Phone under the 30,000 category.
