1) On 15-16 Dec 2014, a gunman named Man Haron Monis, targeted cafe staff and members of a Lindt Chocolate cafe located at martin place in Sydney, Australia.

2) After hearing the gunshots the police officers cordoned off the business district surrounding the site and the nearby buildings were locked down. One hostage was shot dead by the gunman, and the same gunman was shot by the police. Another hostage died of a heart attack on the way to the hospital.

3)The hostages were seen holding a ‘Jihadist black flag’ with the Islamic ‘shahadah’ creed in Arabic, which means, “There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of God.”

4)On 16 dec at 2:14 pm a heavily armed Tactical Operations Police stormed the cafe after which the hostages ran from the building in two groups. The siege was soon over. Three were dead in the incident and four gained non-fatal injuries. Later it was found that Monis was dead during the raid. The weapons that were used are shotgun, machete.

5)Due to concerns of anti Muslim backlash and attack, a movement named #illridewithyou was started in order to physically and emotionally support Muslims travelling alone in public transports.
