  • Tell us more about yourself.

Hi ! My name is Janam Mehta. I am doing my BMS from Lala Lajpat Rai College of Commerce and Economics. I am a hard working and dedicated person. I love sports and reading books. BMS was always what I wanted to do after my 12th. And I’m enjoying it to the core.

  • Were you expecting to top in the exams? To whom would you credit this success to?

Frankly speaking I would have been disappointed if I hadn’t topped in my college. And it feels good when hard work pays off. I would like to thank my family for always supporting me and believing in me and also my friends who had faith in me and always stood by my side. Without them I wouldn’t have achieved what I did.

  • Did you prepare religiously from day One or A few weeks before the exams?

It might be surprising for a few but I started preparing seriously only 2 weeks before the exams. But I would like to add that I made sure I always attended lectures because that does almost 60-70 % of my job.

  • How did you allot time to different subjects?

I don’t believe in studying as per a pre-set time table. I knew I had to atleast revise twice before the exams started so I studied accordingly. I don’t like studying on the basis of hours. I study as much as I can till I’m in the mood. Because it doesn’t make sense to just open the books and sit when you are not at all interested in it. Quality of how much you study matters and not quantity.

  • Can you share some insights on how to crack the subjects before exams?

I don’t think I’m an expert in giving insights because everyone has their own way of studying. But as far as I’m concerned I make sure I do a theory and a practical subject in one day. Subjects which I found easy were Special Studies in Finance, Financial Management and Business Ethics.

About writing answers I’ve seen people go for quantity of answer rather than quality which is not right. I always go for quality over quantity because what you write matters and not how much you write.

There’s no golden rule of how you can crack a case study but I would recommend doing it at the end where you’ll get time to think and write. Regarding practical subjects I would recommend to make sure your basics are right because that will be really helpful to solve sums.

  • Do you think BMS student require coaching classes or is self-study enough? Had you joined any coaching class for a particular subject?

I have never been a fan of coaching class myself. I think everyone’s capable enough to study on their own but it’s just the culture that has formed that you’ll score well only if you take classes which is not true at all.

I myself haven’t joined coaching classes throughout BMS and I never even felt the need to because if you’ll attend regular lectures then there will be no need to take classes.

  • Did you participate in college fests or extra-curricular activities? Do you think a BMS student can manage both studies and extra activities?

Yes. I participated in a few festivals one being our own fest Tsunami which is the biggest BMS festival in Mumbai. I’m also in a committee of BMS week Festival which is our intra-college fest. And I’ve been participating in various other activities like Debate, Seminars, etc.

I totally think that BMS student cam manage both studies as well as extra activities because it’s not only studies that is going to take you forward.

  • Did you pursue any additional courses/ internships alongside BMS?

I did internship in a finance firm recently. It was an amazing experience. I would recommend everyone to take internship or courses alongside BMS.

  • Today, we often come across students committing suicide out of failure, depression or tension of exams. What do you have to say about this? Did you use any special techniques for stress management?

I think it’s really worrying as a student. Parental pressure is one of the main reasons why students commit suicide. I think everyone has their own capabilities and forcing them to do something will just make it worse.

I always listen to music when I’m stressed or I just divert my mind into something else. Stress should be avoided because it’s not good.

  • Do you think the number of Industrial visits should be increased for BMS Students? Which industries have you visited?

Yes, I feel students should get more exposure to the real world for which I.V’s should be increased because alongwith textbook knowledge, practical knowledge is a must.

  • Do you think BMS students are flooded with assignments, projects and internal exams round the clock? What changes would you like to bring in the BMS Curriculum?

I don’t think BMS students are flooded with assignments and all. We are doing a professional course so you can’t expect things to be easy like B.Com.

  • What message would you like to give to the next batch of BMS students?

I would just like to tell all the future batches that be regular in whatever you do. This is an important step in your life which will more or less decide your future so take it seriously. And please please please don’t mug up because it won’t do any good. Never go for the exams unprepared and start well in advance to avoid pressure and stress just before exams. I hope everyone does well like me and others and best of luck to all of them.

  • What are the future plans post BMS?

Well, I am planning to do job for a year or so and simultaneously prepare for MBA.

I just want to congratulate you’ll for the awesome job you’ll are doing and keep up the good work. The site is really helpful. And thanks a lot for the recognition and putting my interview on your site.
