  • Tell us something about yourself

I am Ankush Modawal, 27, a writer, a Feng Shui and Law of Attraction Practitioner by profession and an entrepreneur by choice. The founder and owner of 2 Dawns Publishers as well as the co owner and co founder of Siren, a haute couture brand along with fashion designer Purnima Raheja. I work closely with an event management company called DVR management.

I did my schooling from Delhi Public School, R.K Puram, I completed my graduation from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College in B.COM, Delhi University and did my post graduation from IIPM in Planning and Entrepreneurship.

From a very early age, I was interested in finding out the power of the mind, how the Universe works, what makes a person successful and human psychology. So, I began researching the lives of the most successful people I knew at that time as well as reading the autobiographies and books on the people who inspired me.

I’ve written 6 books so far and they all have the condensed knowledge of what I have found out in my extensive research of whatever I have learned, the secrets, tips, tricks, ways of thinking and actions that successful people use to achieve their dreams in real life.

  • What inspired you to start writing books?

Honestly, it was how much in turmoil my personal life was at that time in 2007. Every piece of writing is a form of catharsis of the writer. The emotions that he or she is feeling are what blossom into words. I was going through a really bad breakup with the girl I loved, so writing became a way for me to escape my reality and I found solace in writing.

Also, writing was something that came naturally to me. I used to write out my feelings even before I planned to become an author. A lot of circumstances that inspired me to write books are also mentioned in my 4th title, Blue Book. I started out really small with the decision of helping as many people as I could with my writings. That boomed and today, I help thousands of people every day with books.

  • Do you have any specific writing style?

I think my readers would be a better judge of this question. I don’t know about my writing style but there are 3 things that I always keep in mind before writing anything, I keep the language simple so that it is easily understood by everyone. I repeat the message I want to convey many times over because repetition is the first law of learning and whatever is repeated the most is what the mind accepts. Finally, I don’t try to teach anyone anything, but actually just share whatever is on my mind because we all learn best when we don’t know that we are learning.

  • Do your books have any message which you want readers to grasp?

Yes, in every book that I have written, there are very specific lessons and messages that I want my readers to hold onto. They are lessons in life that I have learned the hard way. Words don’t teach us as much as life does, life is the best teacher, so I share my life experiences with my readers and it’s up to their perception to decide what message they choose to take from my books.

The lessons are always positive though. I want my readers to be happy and remember that the main aim in our life is happiness. Happiness is the reason that inspires and motivates us to do the things we do. That’s the reason why we study hard, want good paying jobs, buy stuff, have loving people in our lives, it’s all because we believe we will be happy once we accomplish all those things. So make happiness the main in your life and the rest will follow.

  • What are your favorite books and why? Favorite films? Favorite music?

Whew! That’s a tough one. There are just way too many! I am a voracious reader and try to read at least 100 books in a year. I watch all the films and English television series I can get my hands on. In the music genre, I mostly listen to Rap and Trance. The music I listen to depends on my mood. I keep around 10,000 songs on my ipod and laptop

There are just too many great authors, films and T.V show directors, script writers, musicians, composers. One of my all time favorite singers is Raxstar and music producer Sunit Panchal of the Dream Warriors.

  • What are your current projects?

I am researching on my 7th and 8th book these days. It’s too early for me to comment about either of them at this moment. With God’s grace, they both will be released in 2013.

  • Give us three “Good to Know” facts about you. Be creative. Tell us about your job, the inspiration for your writing, any fun details that would enliven your page.

I love animals and nature! I love dogs to the extent that I play with almost every street dog I come across and feed them. So every time I come back to my home, park my car, I am greeted by my furry friends wagging their tails when they see me.

I have about 60 plants in my home and it’s one of the happiest times for me when I am taking care of my plants or surrounded by plants and animals.

I am a big foodie, especially the road side vendors, dhabas and hawkers make some of the best food I have ever eaten in my life. Of course, I am blessed with a good immune system as well so I rarely fall sick even though I eat a lot of junk food.

Another fact about me that people find weird or get shocked about is the fact that I haven’t watched television in over 7 years! Frankly, I don’t get enough time and in my personal opinion, whatever comes on television is mostly negative programming. If I am visiting a friend’s place, a hotel or any other place which has a T.V, I always switch on the Travel and Living, Discovery, History or the National Geographic Channel. I try to learn as much as I can whenever I can.

Life itself is my biggest inspiration. I believe that there is a plan for every one of us and the problems we face in our lives everyday are opportunities for us to become better and stronger individuals.

  • Your message to the aspiring writers?

Follow your passion. Write what you feel is important, create your own style of writing and write from your heart. There are more publishing houses now than ever before and social networks can be easily used to convey your opinions with just a press of a button.  At first, you will feel that writing is really hard work, takes a lot of time, editing and proofreading is frustrating. All that is true, I am won’t tell you that writing is always easy but I promise you it will always be worth your while. This is the best time for you to become a writer.

Start by typing your thoughts in your cell phones and saving them as drafts. Start a blog. Make your opinions intelligent, inspiring and positive. Keep a notepad and pencil with you all the time because sometimes, your mind will be full of thoughts that you must write down immediately. Otherwise, the ideas that come with a flash also disappear from the mind in a flash.  It all starts with a dream, so keep your feet on the ground and head towards the sky, not the other way around.
