The ladies of the girl group are bringing big, diva-fied voices and sassy tunes for their fans particularly the ones which have X chromosomes. The foursome is British four-piece girl group formed in 2011, consisting of members Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall. They competed on the eighth season of The X Factor UK and won. Little Mix, originally was called Rhythmix, which to be honest is a better name because it’s a pun but some charity organisation was using it so they had to change it. They were signed into Syco Records to make their albums. Little Mix doesn’t have a lead singer.
Little Mix released their debut album DNA on 19 November 2012.Their debut single was wings. Lyrically, the song is about being yourself and following your dreams: “Don’t let what they say keep you up at night / No matter what you say, it won’t hurt me / These wings are made to fly.” It has been compared to Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” (2011) for its lyrical themes of individuality and maternal advice. “Wings” is also seen as having a girl power message. Jade Thirlwall spoke out about bringing back girl power with the song in an interview:”I think, like obviously, the boys had been dominating, and it’s about time we get some girl power in there. We were obsessed with girl bands and the Spice Girls were huge, like everyone in Britain absolutely loved them. It was like B*Witched, Destiny’s Child, TLC, there were so many girl bands. It was really cool when you were young and you’d stay out with your friends and you’d be like ‘Oh which one are you going to be?’ … We take a lot of inspiration from the ’90s girl bands.” On the other hand the other group member stated that “I think probably the single ‘Wings’ is just the perfect introduction to Little Mix,” Leigh-Anne. “The sound of it, the beat behind it, the lyrics, the harmonies, I think everything’s in that song to show the American audience what we’re about,” she said. “We really do take seriously our harmonies.”
They have many inspiring songs in their albums and which gives to much confidence and positive energy. For instance “Change your life” gives the message of proving one’s self, “Who we are” states that you don’t need to be like someone else who ever you are you are perfect, Speak up, shout out, be proud, value yourself: these are the messages that Little Mix has for us in their latest song Little me. Can anything be more heart-wrenching and inspiring?
And the list goes on . They may not have the colourful characters of the Spice Girls, but Perrie Edward, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Ann Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall certainly know how to entertain a crowd.“Salute” is an aggressive girl power album, a call to arms for women everywhere to stand up and fight whatever imaginary enemy is standing in their way, and the video reflects that in a truly interesting way. Salute is a feminist anthem. The lyrics goes“You think we’re just pretty things. You couldn’t be more wrong,” the girls sing, sending a message not only to any sexist standing out there but also to every woman who just needs a little motivation to believe in themselves. “We’re standing strong. We carry on… can’t stop a hurricane. Ladies, it’s time to awake!” They simply want everyone to believe in themselves and do everything with confidence. And don’t worry about the people because they will always criticize.X-Factor alumni aren’t renowned for their staying power, but in Little Mix’s case, as long as they enjoy what they do and are able to translate that to the stage, their rise should continue.
