BeattheHeat

Summer is the time to enjoy sandals or putting your toes in the water. Butas temperatures rise in many parts of the country, we become vulnerable to heat cramps, exhaustion, dehydration and heat stroke. But staying cool this summer doesn’t mean that you have to put on your air conditioner running throughout day and night.

Here are few quick tips to beat this summer and which will help you to stay cool:

  • Stay hydrated

Make sure that you drink plenty of water; better if you take in more than the standard eight glasses a day to avoid rapid fluid loss. Stay hydrated. When your body is correctly hydrated you will stay cooler.

  •  Turn off appliances when unused

When appliances run on electricity, they create their own heat. So turn appliances off – laptops, lights, television – when not in use. By turning them off (and unplugging them), heat circulation within the area can be reduced.

  •  Wear loose-fitting and light-colored clothing

Tight and dark-colored clothes tend to trap heat coming from the sun, keeping our body feeling warm. For protection when outside, it’s best to cover yourself up with loose-fitting and light-colored clothing which reflects heat,  helping the body maintain normal temperatures.

  • Take a cool shower everyday

Taking a cool shower once or twice everyday never disappoints. Frequent showers help lower body temperature while also rinsing off body sweat, making you feel a lot more comfortable even during hot days.

  • Consume cold and healthy treats

The season’s best offering is watermelon. Apart from high moisture content, the fruit is a great fat burner and it also bossts up your energy level and avoids fatigue. Other fruits such as pineapple mangoes, oranges can also be opted.

  • Keep a cold water spray bottle

Spraying water over the body’s pulse points like the neck, wrist and temples of the head – where blood vessels are closer to the surface of our skin – can help the body cool down. Make sure to bring a hand towel to wipe off excess water.
