What are the Purpose of Human Skills Study?

A human skill is the ability to work with, understand, and motivate other people, both individually and in groups.

 

 

HUMAN SKILLS IS STUDIED FOR FOLLOWING PURPOSES:

 

To understand why people behave in a particular way: Every individual behave in a different way. This behavior highly determines one’s perception towards certain events and its interpretation. Some people are quite rigid, autocratic and conservative in their thoughts where as some are just opposite, i.e. their approach towards others is quite flexible, broad minded and democratic. The study helps us to understand why human beings behave and think in a particular manner with themselves and with others.

 

To understand individual differences: The study of individual differences is a well-developed science. No two people even in an identical situation will behave exactly same. Today, due to the result of easy availability of different media for communications, the world has become a small place and we are likely to interact with people from diverse background having contrasting values, beliefs and personalities. The study of Human Skills helps us to understand individual differences, with reference to the socio-cultural, ethnic, and racial and gender background. A good human resource manager understands this viewpoint and deals with individual accordingly.

 

To understand various Internal Processes: The study of Human Skills not only teaches us individual behavior; individual differences but also various internal processes. For e.g. given a situation, how two people will take different decisions? How people become prejudiced towards others. Understanding Human Skills will help people to understand Internal Process of human beings.

To understand why people work: Not all working individual have one intension of working – making money. People work for different reasons. Some people work at a particular place and in a particular department because the work may be satisfying them, whereas some people work just to make money out of it. People cannot be motivated using one technique of say paying higher salary or more perks. Learning human skills teaches how to motivate people and fulfill their potentialities, needs, desires, and wishes in a most economical manner.

 

To Bring about a desired and voluntary change: Understanding Human Skills helps us to bring a desired and voluntary change in the organization and also in individuals. Managers can bring desirable changes in the organization, which are perhaps one of the most difficult areas, which sometimes enter, in interpersonal conflicts. People are reluctant to change and they do not desire changes, especially in those areas in which changes occur suddenly and abruptly. The study of Human Skills will help us to understand as to how to change oneself without any distress and bring changes in others.

 

To help organization and individuals develop in a mutually accepted and expected direction
