Ans. Functions of packaging how packaging helps reducing overall costs and value addition
1. Physical protection :
a) The objects enclosed in the package may require protection from, among other things, shock, vibration, compression, temperature, etc.
Protection from environment, pilferage, shocks of handling and moving.
2. Environmental Protection :
a) A barrier from oxygen, water vapor, dust, etc., is often required.
b) Package perishbility is a critical factor in design.
c) Some packages contain Oxygen absorbers to help extend shelf life.
d) Modified atmospheres or controlled atmospheres are also maintained in some food packages.
e) Keeping the contents clean, fresh, and safe for the expected shelf life is a primary function.
