Biggest crisis for a BMS student: Taught us to cook plain rice and expect Biryani in semester exams

BMS is a difficult course to crack and for students across the various colleges one very common problem that arises is the fact that teachers teach them in a particular way stressing on certain aspects of the topic but in the exam the entire syllabus is asked, popularly known as the ‘plain rice-biryani’ syndrome by BMSites.

Not all students in the different BMS colleges across the city have the opportunity to study under teachers who are well qualified, sometimes it also happens that the teachers are just not interested and for students it becomes a huge problem. “Practical subjects are the worst if we have to put them on self study” says an F.Y.BMS student who has a lot of difficulty in coping up with her Finance and Cost Accounting subject.

“If this is the situation in the first Sem what will happen in the Fifth and Sixth Sem?” she fears. Another student from a new college in the second year is struggling with his Managerial accounting in the Third Sem and is now struggling with Taxation feels that coaching classes with hefty fees are the only option left for students who find it difficult to cope up with practical subjects.

But can coaching classes be termed as a solution? “After what we got to see with the 5th semester results in the subject of Financial Management this year, those hefty fees too seem like a wasted burden on our parents”, says a consistently bright student who recently got a KT in her Sem 5 exams.

The situation is very similar for students who have to deal with poor faculty in subjects like Strategic management and Corporate Law or Industrial Law, which require very accurate and technical guidance.

All we can say is that if you wish for a Biryani from the student’s side in the examination then please provide them with the right sort of guidance, because ultimately if you teach them how to cook up plain rice, that’s the only thing they will be able to make in their exam papers.
