Are we Brave enough to analyse what we Watch?

Films are purely made for Entertainment. It gives a big canvas to combine visuals and music to tell a story in an extraordinary way. Films reliefs a tired mind, some films educates. In short it is a form of art that has good things and bad things; everything has good and bad in it. Need a break after hours of gruelling work? Need a different perspective to refresh the mind? Simply purchase a film from a local DVD store and your wishes are sorted. They say it is like going on a vacation… of course without the much required advertisements for hotel and travel bookings!
The effects of our modern day films can be seen on the elders of rural and urban areas and children.. There are films like “BAGHBAN” and “BHOOTHNAATH” which were family oriented films that brought many middle-aged Indians to reflect on their blood relations and become more affectionate. Nowadays, films are more of action, thriller, romance, robbery etc. The youth try to imitate each and everything and this is reflected in their dressing style, the way they carry themselves, conversation starters, and etcetera. People start imagining themselves in the story lines of those films. Call it human psychology! Girls and boys, especially in the age bracket of 15-21, are the easiest preys. The dialogues, the dressing style of the actor become the latest trend for the youngsters. They try to imitate what all goes in films and without understanding that some part of it might leave a negative impression on them. Knowingly or unknowingly the films moulds the youth of today in one way or the other and effect of cinema on youth can be seen widely. Even the youngsters in rural areas are so much affected by the movies, that they place the heroes of the film in a very integrated part of their minds. One may say that there is a statutory warning as a tag on that scene. But those warnings stay at the very corner of the screen and no one pays any attention to it. A relatively large percent of the young generation contemplate that if Ranveer Singh can smoke then why can’t I?; if Salman can drink then why can’t I?; If Aamir can slide a bike then why can’t I? One can say that it is not entirely the fault of the films. But if one tries to reflect over it, then these films are indirectly encouraging the youth to do these wrong things. There are a very few examples of modern movies which are corrupting the youth unwillingly.
Even the advertisements are no less. It’s human nature that we mostly follow the one whom we appreciate the most. There are ads that bring on actresses and actors for promoting a product in such a way that may lead the youth to some bad phase. Spray a little amount of this deodorant and you are sure to have a gang of girls running after you! In the films today when the daily crimes, murders, robberies are shown some people take it in a
wrong way and they purposely learn how to commit such crimes. They learn the tricks and tactics used for crimes in the films. Examples of these can be found in our local newspapers so often.
The stunts shown in films are imitated by certain number of youth which also leads to terrible accidents where they lose their organs or life at such a productive age. Also now abuses are so common in almost all the films that even a kid of 10 years is able to speak such abusive language knowingly or unknowingly. Harassment and rapes have increased because of the free and western culture shown in films today. On the other hand, there are films like ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Nayak’, are ideal lessons for the politicians of this country. But this remains restricted only in the films whereas in the real life, corruption is increasing day by day. There are family films which give such good morals to the youth but people just watch them, get influenced for some time and forget the moral as soon as the film gets over.
Do films change the way the society thinks too?
None will criticize theatre where artists play different roles but when it comes to cinemas on the big screens people divide in their thoughts. Why do we see the bad aspects of cinemas, why can’t we see the goodness of cinemas? It’s also a stage where actors show their art, art of acting, dancing, speaking. It makes youth aware of different technologies various advancements. It provides platform to those true actors who are really very good artist. It brings out the various talent within any country. It makes the women of today, more aware of their rights and empower them.

Movies are created to provide refreshment and recreation /to/FOR/ people. Not only for recreation, they create awareness about happenings in our surroundings, but (nowadays) movies HAVE a great impact on not only youth but also on children. Impact mainly depends on us. Any movie will have bad and good ELEMENTS and it is ourselves WHO should BE able to distinguish between them. If we analyse and focus on the positive aspects in a film, we definitely have a positive impact. Nowadays the purpose for creation of films has become completely commercial. Rarely do producers think about the impact on society. They only look for profit. There are also movies that make us wake up. On the other hand the film industry is gives a livelihood to many artistes, technicians etc.
Coming to the point of youth, youth is a part of life where we get much to enjoy. In any stage of life we do not have that much power and enthusiasm and also time to watch movies.
Youth as grownups, should have the ability to contemplate and grasp good factors of a movie. Movies have the power to make OR break the world.
