An Interview with Farhin Parkar, TYBMS Sem 5 Topper, Royal College (79.33%)

  • Tell us more about yourself.

I am Farhin parkar currently pursuing Bachelors of Management studies from Royal College, Mira Road. I am hard working, Compassionate and Friendly. I believe that the only way a person gets successful in his/her life is through 3 things – Hard Work, Determination and Courage. These are the values that have been thought to me in my school days which made achieve Excellence.

  • Were you expecting to top in the exams? To whom would you credit this success to?

No this time I really did not expect to top in my exams especially at the University Level. I believe that expectations are endless of human beings and getting good rank in college is what we want so that our future gets Prosperous. I would like to credit my success to especially my mother for her everlasting prayers and my teachers who helped me and supported me throughout and specially my friends for their unconditional support and faith in me.

  • Did you prepare religiously from day One or A few weeks before the exams?

Frankly Speaking I have never prepared for my exam from day one because I believe Concentration that is being done during the normal course of teaching and also coaching classes played a very important role. I believe that planning is one of the important things that need to be considered before starting to study and I start my presentation normally one month before the exams.

  • How did you allot time to different subjects?

I believe that Time table is something that we surely make with full enthusiasm and energy but failed to implement it always. I believe that first you should concentrate on only one subject give full dedication and study that properly if u feel bore while studying a theory subject then take up a practical subject that is Financial management and Special studies in finance as it helps in reducing stress. I used to study whole day during the past one month but used to take break in between which helped me doing my subjects thoroughly.

  • Can you share some insights on how to crack the subjects before exams?

Planning is what I emphasize mostly on for cracking any kind of exam. It plays an important role in your time table. Some of the easy subjects are the HRM and logistics which I found easy as comparing with others. Write your paper with neatness with possibly proper diagram which will help you in gaining more marks. Those people who does not have any idea about how to write a case study should solve some of the past papers case study and get it checked with you teacher as it would help you know where are the loop holes that are present in the answer.

  • Do you think BMS student require coaching classes or is self-study enough? Had you joined any coaching class for a particular subject?

It depends upon the student. Even a person who does not join Coaching class can become Topper provided he works hard and also solves not only the sums taught in the class but also referring various reference books. But especially in case of FM and SSF I think coaching classes would be of great help as it would help you solving variety of sums. Yes I had joined classes for FM and SSF.

  • Did you participate in college fests or extra-curricular activities? Do you think a BMS student can manage both studies and extra activities?

Yes I participated in various extracurricular activities. Yes I believe that BMS can manage both studies and extra activities as Management is the Prime lesson which has been thought in BMS and a person must know how to manage the things without affecting your work.

  • Did you pursue any additional courses/ internships alongside BMS?

No I did not pursue any additional course/ internship alongside BMS as I always believe doing two things simultaneously together affects the productivity of both the works and hence I concentrate in finishing my degree first and later doing other courses.

  • Today, we often come across students committing suicide out of failure, depression or tension of exams. What do you have to say about this? Did you use any special techniques for stress management?

I believe that students commit suicides due to various reasons which could be from the parents as well as to excel in the exams but committing suicide won’t give any solution to your problem. Instead if u feel that you could not study due to any reason and u fail. Take it as a challenge and overcome your fear with proper planning. There are no stress management techniques but every student knows what makes them feel happy after doing any work and must go ahead in doing things that gives you pleasure.

  • Do you think the number of Industrial visits should be increased for BMS Students? Which industries have you visited?

Yes I believe that number of industrial visits should be increased as it gives student the practical exposure of how things are done in reality. The industries that I have visited are ALOK INDUSTRIES in Silvasa, RELIANCE POWER PLANT in palghar and SUNDARAM manufacturing company are the places that I had visited.

  • Do you think BMS students are flooded with assignments, projects and internal exams round the clock? What changes would you like to bring in the BMS Curriculum?

Yes I believe BMS students are flooded with assignments, projects and internal exams round the clock. I believe that primary data collection in the project should be given more weightage and must be encouraged as it gives the student practical exposure and helps in gaining lot of knowledge.

  • What message would you like to give to the next batch of BMS students?

Plan your studies well and believe in living your present. Don’t think too much about future because you wouldn’t really know what destiny holds for you. Hence, BMS students should enjoy their Life but also study when the right time comes and don’t be stressed for any reason as it just affects your health which ultimately affects your studies. So stay happy and enjoy the Moment.

  • What are the future plans post BMS?

My future plans after BMS would be is that to do MBA in the field of Finance or HR from a well reputed university or would be planning to work for a year and then after going for MBA.
