Last week, Euphoria’s lead singer Dr. Palash Sen was at Mood Indigo at IIT-Bombay, which is considered to be biggest and the most happening fest in Asia. To make students laugh, the singer allegedly made some sexist and misogynist remarks against girls.
After the fest, Arpita Biswas, a researcher on caste and gender at IIT Bombay, criticized the doctor-turned-singer’s comments in her blog Sexism in Mood Indigo.
On the other hand, the event organizers offered an apology about the incident on their facebook page –
According to Arpita Biswas, who was at the concert, Dr. Palash Sen asked the crowd: “Are there good-looking girls in IIT-B?” while all the men in the audience said “no”.
In an attempt to cheerup the boys, he allegedly said: “Don’t worry guys, you will find the best looking women when you leave this campus. Aur woh tumhaare liye roti belenge (and they will roll rotis for you).”
He allegedly did not stop here and went on to say: “Women are for beauty, men are for intelligence. You have to agree that men are more intelligent than women, don’t you?”
These comments were made infront of 10,000 students who were present from 800 colleges across India which sparked widespread outrage on Facebook and Twitter leading to the premier institute blacklisting the Euphoria band and Dr. Palash Sen.
Arpita, in her blog, not only demanded an apology from the singer but also a ban on Euphoria and Sen at IIT-B and other campuses across India. Alongwith Arpita, there were a couple of bloggers who wrote about Palash Sen’s sexist remarks –
Dr. Palash Sen – Why you are not sexy but a sexist?
When Palash Sen was asked to comment on the issue, he said his words were misconstrued by a person and the latest buzz is that he will never perform at IIT-B unless they apologize him.
Does it mean that sexist jokes really hurt?

Much ado about nothing. Learn to take a joke. Every single day on TV I see a million “Dad is a dumbass and mom is a hero” advertisements. You don’t see me marching on the roads.
Palash meant it as a joke.
