There are certain stores who sell throughout the year at a discount. These stores make bulk purchases generally from the manufacturers and thus get bulk discount. They keep only those items, which sell fast and thus streamline inventory management and save on inventory cost.
These stores have low overhead cost, they do not have innovative shop displays and save on space; they work in small space and save on rent. These stores generally do not have air condition shop, nor piped music or fancy light.
These discount stores offer goods below the price charged by other shops and often discount is 10-15 percent. In Delhi Economy store works on this principle. These stores appeal most to the middle class who are price conscious. In Delhi Super Bazaar, a cooperative store works on this principle. According to recent studies such discount stores are increasingly becoming popular and so more of them are coming up.
