Definitions of Management

F.W. Taylor – Management is knowing exactly what you want men to do and then seeing that they do it in the best and cheapest way.

 

General Definition – Management is the activity for getting things done through other people.

 

James Lundy – Management is principally a task of planning, co-ordinating, motivating and controlling the efforts of others towards a specific objective.

 

Prof. Harold Koantz – Management is the art of getting things done through and with people.

 

Koontz O’dounel – Management is the task of a manager to establish and maintain an internal environment in which people working together in groups can perform effectively and efficiently towards attainment of group goals.

 

Every organization has two groups of individuals, “Managers” and the “Managed” (operatives). The principal function of managers is to get things done by the operatives and to get things done, he possesses certain authority which the operatives do not possess.
