Desimartini Movies:
Vishal Bhardwaj has created a spectacularly dark and melancholic rendition of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Shahid, Tabu and the magnificent locales of Kashmir elevate this intense political thriller to a whole new level of brilliance. Haider is a masterpiece.
Sachnews Jammu and Kashmir:
Who is the writer of Film Haider ?
HAIDER: Last year, a day after the Kashmir University students expressed their anger over a scene being shot at the campus, I and a few of my journalist colleagues were called by director Vishal Bhardwaj over a cup of tea and interaction at Taj Vivanta, Srinagar. One of my colleagues from New Delhi revealed to me by phone that a young Kashmiri author was the script and screenplay writer of Bhardwaj’s Rs 37-crore Bollywood film “Haider”. I was happy to meet the author at Taj and asked him if he had the credit of being the script writer. “Absolutely not. Had I been one, I would have honestly told you. Vishal is just a friend and I have no role in his project. I am just accompanying him as a friend and local contact”, he said, when stone pelting on the crew was at its peak. Now that the brickbats have vanished and “Haider” is ready for the release on October 2nd, Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, I am told that the same author-friend figures in the credits as script and screenplay writer. Great!. ( Ahmed Ali Fayyaz )
BangaloreMirror.com Review:
#BMReviews While this is far from his weakest effort, and better than most directors’ strongest, Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider is only his third best Shakespeare adaptation.
