Disadvantages Of Focus Group Interview / Discussion:
(1) How to encourage participants for free discussion and how to secure their cooperation in the research work is a big problem in focus group interview technique of data collection.
(2) The views/information available may not be of representative character due to non-participation of some members.
(3) The benefit of this technique will be available only if the group leader is matured, experienced and effective communicator.
(4) Members may express views on irrelevant matters or unrelated topics. This leads to wastage of time and money.
(5) There may be one sided discussion in the group. The benefit of such discussion is limited for research purpose.
