100 years of Indian Cinema.
100 years of Indian Cinema.

Back with the list of noteworthy mentions of 2013 and how can we miss Hindi Cinema completing a 100 years. Here we have a Youth perspective of Indian cinema and what it means to us.

Cinema to Indians is like a religion, we follow it to the minutest of details. From the songs, story lines, sets, directors, producers, actors, side-actors, their personal life, their professional life we just so love to know everything about them.

In the past 100 years cinema has influenced us viewers in all walks of life. From showcasing freedom struggles, love stories, horror, masala movies, sensible comedies, slapstick comedies, art movies, mythological stories, historical events or taking up causes that affect the society and raise a voice for them; there is no theme that Indian cinema hasn’t covered.

Today the Indian cinema has a very young face, with actors, directors, and music composers everyone being a youth icon. For us youngsters these young icons are people we follow religiously, their PDA’s, their endorsements, their dedication to work or the lack of it, is all followed very minutely.

From fashion in clothing and accessories, hairstyles, accent of talking, posture and physique we copy it all. Their diet mantra’s, their gym routine, the books they read, the show’s they watch we have everything at the tip of our tongue.

But is it appropriate to follow these actors to this extent? An example of the negatives of this craze is that a popular actress from the young brigade commented on ‘Koffee with Karan’ that she didn’t read the Times of India, she just read Bombay Times and it suddenly became cool to read only the entertainment section in newspapers.

In interviews these actors comment on their competitor’s work or their personal life and their much publicized link-up’s and break-up’s. Instead of showing the required dedication towards their movies they show their interest in putting their contemporaries down.

For the youth these new actors are their icons, but will they remain to be the same is a question this young brigade needs to consider very strongly. To be able to influence the youth and grow over from actors to superstars, these actors surely need to reconsider their public stand on their own actions, if nothing else!
