Runa : Indian ethos emphasizes that an individual takes rebirth To pay back the runa or debt to life. He is indebted to pancha maha bhuta for his physical existence. Therefore, he needs to respect his teacher & do everything possible for the teacher. He is also indebted to the teacher from whom he has learnt everything about life. That is why in ancient times, there was concept like (guru dakshina), emphasising that the disciple must give to the teacher whatever he is asking for. Eklavya in Mahabharatha gave his thumb of the right hand to guru Dronacharya as he accepted him as his teacher even though he had not taught him anything. Being indebted to the father (because of whom he born), he needs to take care of him when he is grown up
