‘No Ragging’ in the college is only on paper

0

A student named Nitin Padalkar committed suicide due to ragging in his college in Navi Mumbai 1 week before. Although the colleges claim that they have initiated several measures to curb ragging on and off campus, such cases keep cropping up in a while or so. Principals are of the opinion that students refuse to complain that they are ragged. There are also counsellors in colleges whose help can be taken to solve the problems. Whereas students complain that the ragging measures are just on paper. Few colleges do take quick measures by suspending the students but not all colleges are strict in these matters. Although UGC had sent circulars and shared the helpline numbers to the students keep facing such issues leading to suicides and other drastic steps. The Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1999 calls for action against the college if the college head ignore a complaint.
