Over 250 students from colleges in Sion and Matunga will run to promote the ‘safety of women’ on Saturday morning. Students of Guru Nanak College in GTB Nagar decided to start their inter-collegiate festival with the minithon focussing on crimes against women.
The seven-kilometre run from Sion to Matunga will see participation of students from SIES, Ramnarain Ruia, Khalsa, Podar, SIWS and SNDT colleges. “The minithon will be a prelude to the inter-collegiate festival ‘Zeal’ that starts from January 9,” said Vivek Singh, a student of Guru Nanak College. He added, “It is a major concern among citizens at present and we want to address it in our own small way.” Professor Pushpinder Bhatia who is co-ordinating the event, said, “This is the best way to sensitise youth. The women’s development cell and NSS unit of the college are also organising a talk where we plan to invite police and counsellors to talk to students.”
The inter-collegiate festival will take off on Jan 9 with ‘Mind Share’ – a one day seminar for Bachelor of Banking and Insurance (BBI) students followed by events in sports, academics and entertainment from January 10-12.
