Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is an online computer based test conducted by the All Indian Counsil for Technical education (AICTE), India. It is a national-level admission test for facilitating institutions to select suitable students for admission in all management programmes approved by AICTE. It is conducted twice a year and the selection process is conducted as per the ‘best of two’ pattern. In the past the test has been conducted thrice a year so we can conclude that the pattern is still evolving and is subject to changes.
AICTE has now decided to conduct CMAT in Foreign Countries for facilitating eligible NRIs/PIOs and foreign nationals to appear in CMAT for seeking admission in institutions in India following CMAT merit list for 2014-15 under special provisions defined in AICTE Approval Process and against all vacancies left after completion of centralized admission in management institutions.
Eligibility:
- Graduates with 50% in any discipline
- Final year students of Graduate Courses can also apply
Test duration and pattern:
CMAT is a three-hour test, usually conducted in a period of nine days in two shifts at 61 locations in all over India. It is conducted twice a year and the better of two scores will be used for admission.
Marking pattern:
There are 25 questions in each section. While each correct answer carries four marks, each wrong answer will carry one negative marking.
Sections:
The question paper comprises four sections:
- Quantitative technique
- Logical reasoning
- Langugage comprehension
- General Awareness
Syllabus:
The preparation will mainly be based on your basic knowledge on mathematics, English, logical reasoning and General Knowledge which you have acquired from Class VIII till graduation.
CMAT Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation Syllabus:
The questions in this section are mostly on Arithmetic and Algebra with few questions on Modern Maths, Geometry, Mensuration, Coordinate Geometry and Number Systems. The Algebra section can be further broken into the topics like Polynomials, Linear Equation, Quadratic Equation, Inequality, Progression and Functions.
The Data Interpretation questions range from Pie Charts, line Graph, Bar Graph, Caselets etc.
CMAT Logical Reasoning Syllabus:
 This section mainly asks questions on Mathematical or Verbal Reasoning. The topics from Mathematical Reasoning include Linear and circular arrangement, Selection, Direction, Blood Relations, Data Sufficiency, Cubes, Visual Reasoning, Clocks and Calendars.
The Verbal Reasoning questions were on Deductive Logic, Logical Consistency, Data Sufficiency and Statement Conclusion questions.
CMAT Language Comprehension Syllabus:
This section can be divided into three parts, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary or English Usage and Critical Reasoning. The Reading Comprehension or RC consists of passages of around 120 words and corresponding questions. The questions are mainly direct, with some of them inferential and summary based.
The vocabulary questions are on Synonyms, Antonyms, Word Usage, Idioms, Sentence Completion and Analogy, Para Jumbles and Fact Inference and Judgment (FIJ). Critical Reasoning and Grammar include the other aspects of the CMAT Language Comprehension Syllabus.
 CMAT General Awareness Syllabus:
The General Awareness section of the CMAT Syllabus is divided into two parts, static GK and current affairs. The static GK has questions like famous personalities, books and authors, awards etc. The current affairs part can ask you questions from anywhere under the sun like politics, business, sports, social developments, entertainment etc.
Difficulty level:
The general difficulty level of the exam varies from Easy to Moderate. Though it is expected that the CMAT Syllabus will be on the above lines, however, you should be prepared well to face any surprises.
