1) Tell us about yourself?
Hi, This is Susmi Roy, currently studying in TYBMS. I did my 12th from science stream. Taking admission in BMS course was a mere coincidence. I wanted to explore the management side of different aspects which would help me in my future and as an aspiring manager this course suited perfectly. The reason I chose BMS over any other Course offered in the field of Commerce was that it gives a holistic view of how an organisation operates and develops your management skills.

Coming from science background I didn’t know BMS would be such a fun. The course is very much interesting as it prepares you to speak in public and to lead.

I am planning to pursue my MBA in finance/marketing.

About myself, I would say I am chubby, talkative, frank, straight forward, enthusiastic and energetic, love helping and try to make best out of every situation…

2) How does it feel to be a Topper of the college in TY Sem V exams?
In a word, I feel Incredible

But you can’t explain these feelings in words.

I am overwhelmed. It feels great… actually amazing… being a topper of the college in TY-Vth sem.

I am proud and more confident. I’m happy that all my efforts have paid off.

Though I also don’t want to get carried away and continue doing what I do the best.

Honestly it hasn’t changed much in me. As this is not the end rather it’s just a start of the journey. And I personally believe that I am far away from my best.

3) Whom will you credit your success to?

Lot of people actually… Starting with my real life heroes, my parents, especially my mother who has been my inspiration to work hard… who has always been my support and believed in me more than myself. I would also give the credit of my success to God.

All my teachers at CKT College for their constant support, without whom it wouldn’t have been possible. I was blessed to have the best of faculty.

They constantly encourage me, inspired me to be better.

Last but not least my friends Sukhdeep, Aswin, and Namrata who helped me whenever I had doubts…. Helping me at every step

And for all my other friends who were there whenever I needed anything. I hope I haven’t missed anyone.

🙂

Also I feel there is no need of joining extra class if you attend lectures regularly in college

4) Did you start preparing from the first day of your TY Sem V?
The preparation starts right from the day you join BMS. It’s the culmination of knowledge over the past 3 years that helps you to succeed in the university exams.

To be true, I did not start preparing since the first day. I am not a bookworm. I attended my college lectures attentively and studied hard during the exam week. Studying for long hours is not my style but preparing my own notes in my own words and practicing practical subjects from beginning like FM and SSF regularly are the things which helped me a lot.

5) How did you study for Sem V?

It is important to identify your weak subjects and strong subjects. There is nothing easy or tough as such. It depends upon the area of interest of individual students I believe. As for me theory subjects were my weak subjects as these subjects are quite vast and I studied them by preparing my own notes during lecturesthat gave me an understanding about the subject. Mugging up of answers is not the solution to pass the exams; rather one should understand the concept properly and write them in your own words.

Practical Subjects like FM and SSF needs regular practice. I used to solve the sums which were taught in the college.

6) Which are the easy subjects in Sem V?

For me Easy subjects were HRM and Ethics in Sem V.

In fact all subjects are easy, you just need to concentrate.

7) Any special way of writing the answers? Do you write answers in bullet points or in paragraphs?
I usually write the answers in bullet points. They help in sequencing the answers which is quite attractive, making the paper look good and presentable.

Highlighting key words by underlying them makes it easy for an examiner to evaluate.

8) How do you crack case studies in theory and practical subjects?
Case studies test your awareness of the subject. Hence, solving case studies requires knowledge about the particular subject and then relate them according to questions.
Also, one needs to allot at least half an hour to read the Case properly as it is important to read the case study a couple of times before writing the answers.

9) Did you draw any diagram in any paper? Is it mandatory? Does it help to get more marks?

No, I did not got enough time to draw diagrams. Though it is recommended to draw them as they help in fetching better marks and makes your paper unique from others.

It helps in presenting the answers in more effective way and makes it look attractive.

It isn’t mandatory and Yes it does help to gain marks.

10)Any specific study pattern adopted i.e. timetable / how many hours per subject per day etc.?

No. I never had any such specific time allotted to each subject.

No specific patterns. No timetable No Burden

11) How do you fight against mood swings and distractions during exam preparation?

I don’t, I study only when I feel to. 🙂

12) If you are made the Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University, what changes would you like to initiate in Indian education?
Firstly, I’ll change the exam paper pattern. According to me, marking system should change back to 60-40 pattern as 60marks are enough to understand a student’s calibre…. 75-25 paper pattern is not good, it is time consuming and adds to mental stress for writing paper for like another half an hour.

Removing PPT’s from the BMS curriculum was the worst change along with this change in pattern.

Another change I would like to suggest in BMS education system is to introduce a system where the students gain practical as well as theoretical knowledge since there is no room for practical knowledge. There needs to be more practical exposure to students by ways of visiting to various industries and outside experts and working with them

I would like to initiate more activities like going to real workplaces and having first hand working experience.

i.e., With normal classes any additional internship program (compulsory) should be introduced for few months in collaboration with proper industry that provides certificates adding to student’s work experience that will help him/her to apply in any company he/she wishes to.

This will help in bridging the gap between academics and industry.

If colleges provide such opportunities it would help us to develop even better.

Also I had to face problems being a student of CBSE Board regarding documents. I would first ensure that no student would have to face such kind of problems.

13) Many students prepare sincerely but constantly live under fear that they are not from big college / not from English medium and eventually lose confidence. What message would you like to these students?
I think college name doesn’t matter and students should have self-confidence. Do not underestimate yourself by comparing yourself with others. It is our difference that makes us unique. One should know their capability.

Instead of competing with others, compete with yourself.

Students should improve themselves by grabbing the opportunities instead of stressing on things that don’t even matter.

It is only the hard work that leads to the fruitful results.

 14) Through this struggle and success, what have you learned? What is the wisdom of life and competition?

With every stage in life you learn new things. There is no end of learning new things.

According to me if you give everything and anything your 100%, the results will always fall in place.

Keep a healthy competition with your colleagues and just stay happy and stress free.

Looking 3 years back, through all the struggles and success, there have been some wonderful memories that I have shared in my previous interview with bms.co.in (http://www.bms.co.in/interview-with-susmi-roy-best-bms-class-representative-c-k-t-college/)

15) Your feedback for BMS.co.in?

BMS.co.in is an amazing website. It updates us with the with best knowledge And latest news regarding the course and Mumbai university.

You guys are doing a very good job by providing various contents on the subjects. I think it’s a really good initiative taken by bms.co.in as it is encourages and motivates students… showing them a right direction towards the path of success.

I think you should update your website with important questions/notes in the beginning of the sem itself… just a small piece of advice.

I also thank BMS.co.in for motivating toppers like us to share their stories. You guys are giving students a chance to open up. Keep the good work going!! The site is great.
