An Interview with Prof. Sachin Pimple, BMS Co-ordinator, Bunts Sangha’s Anna Leela College

  • Tell us something about yourself and your college.

I have done my MBA in Finance from ICFAI & M. Com from University of Mumbai along with UGC-NET.

Bunts Sangha College is run by the trust named Bunts Sangha, Mumbai. The trust took the lead for the opening of night school for working boys. The trust started their first primary, secondary school, Junior & degree college at Hirandani Powai, Mumbai.

Our college named Bunts Sangha’s Anna Leela College for Commerce & Economics & Shobha Jayram College for BMS started in June 2008 & currently teaching different courses such as BMS, BAF, B.Com, BMM & B.Sc. (IT). It is also having independent hospitality college and Management Institute. It has one of the best infrastructure & highly qualified faculties to teach all these courses.

  • When did you join this profession? What inspired you to choose this line?

I joined teaching Profession seven years back.

Dedication of my teachers towards us students made me to take this profession. Teaching has now become my passion. It gives immense pleasure to see my students succeed in life. The kind of love, affection and respect that students show towards their teachers brings great satisfaction from our job.

The best thing about this field is that it remains always fresh and happening as new students bring new spirit & energetic vibes.

  • As a Coordinator, do you also teach any subjects? If yes, which subjects you teach?

Having my specialization in Finance I teach mainly accounts and finance related subjects like Financial A/c, Cost A/c, Direct and Indirect Taxes and Financial Management.

I also teach theory subjects like Principles of Management, Business Aspects in Banking & Insurance, Business Environment, EXIM, Public Relations etc.

  • How are the roles and responsibilities of a Coordinator different from that of a faculty? Do you like being a Faculty or a Coordinator? Which helps you to connect more with students?

Role and responsibilities of coordinator are little broader as compare to the faculty. I think good coordinator has to be a good faculty which will make him connect with both students and other colleague faculties. Being faculty where one is focusing and concentrating more on his/her teaching, keeping himself/herself updated in the concerned subject and trying to implement better teaching methods to improve learning process, coordinator needs  to do all these things along with keeping the whole unit together. I think the most important role of the coordinator is to be a facilitator. Coordinator needs to hold his/her whole unit together including faculties, students and non-teaching staff, if any dedicated. Also needs to maintain the team spirit which will ultimately uplift the performance of the department.

I enjoy both roles being coordinator as well as faculty. Both roles expect different things from you and its challenging to perform different roles.

I think though you are faculty or coordinator if you are passionate about your role you always be connected to the students. In fact I feel students give you energy and motivation to work better.

  • Who in your life has influenced the most?

Dedication and determination that Legends have shown influenced me the most. Rather, I would say, that their high determination and dedication made them Legends. And when there is a social side of that legend is as bright as their professional side then that Legend is my true motivation.

  • Tell us something about your college fests/events and extra-curricular activities? Do you believe that it should be made compulsory for students to manage both studies and be a part of college fests/events?

Our college organizes intra-collegiate festival JALLOSH, every December. Other than this, we also celebrate cultural week to provide platform to showcase hidden talent of students.

It is not mandatory to participate in such events. With compulsion students may perform the task but not whole-heartedly.

None the less, I personally feel students must voluntarily come up to organize and participate in events to groom their personalities. It is a fun-packed learning experience according to me.

  • Tell us something about your college students’ performances? Does your college provide any placement assistance to BMS students?

Our college does provide placement assistance to students. We have very active placement cell which not only try to attract different employers but also counsel students to make them competitive to get placed in good jobs.

  • What are your future plans for the college?

We are planning to come up with an Inter-Collegiate festival for all BMS colleges affiliated to University of Mumbai.

  • What are the prospects after BMS?

Being a general management course with specializations in finance or marketing it gives wide opportunities to BMS students. Graduation in management helps student to get managerial level job. Also specialization in finance or marketing can give opportunity to work as finance analyst or to work in core marketing or advertising field. Also subjects like banking & insurance or Production & materials management open doors of banking or insurance industry or in the field of operations.

Along with this BMS students get competitive edge while doing their MBA as they are already groomed as Management students even at their undergraduate level. Number of presentations and live projects give them knowledge and help them to present their ideas in better way.

  • What message would you like to give to BMS students?
