  • Tell us more about yourself.

I as a person am a little bit introvert but at same time very much passionate about the basic aspect of learning. I believe in the concept- “there is no shortcut to success and it comes to those who are passionate about being successful and work towards it.”

  • Were you expecting to top in the exams? To whom would you credit this success to?

I don’t really write an exam with the intention of topping it. But I believe I got what I deserved. God has been very kind. This has made my family proud as it is because of them I have made it this far in life. This is also for my friends who have stood by me no matter what and to all my Bms batch mates. This is a great platform to express my humble gratitude to my college and to the entire faculty who have been available for me when I needed them and for bearing with me. I would also like to thank Deepak sir and Vipin sir.

I would like to thank FORAM, ANUJA, MEGHA AND ANAMIKA for being 4 strong pillars in my life. They have immense faith in me, more than I do.

  • Did you prepare religiously from day One or A few weeks before the exams?

Not all the subjects from the very beginning. Technical subjects like Operations Research, International Finance and Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management were my major focus from the very beginning.

For the Theory subjects I would like to advise to not to “Rattofy” them. I focused on the basic concepts of every subject. And for the subjects like ENTREPRENEURSHIP and INTERNATIONAL MARKETING (which are loaded with sub-points for every answer), they were the subjects I faced the difficulty tackling with.

  • How did you allot time to different subjects?

There was no time table as such. I used to study in the evenings focusing more on the technical subjects. And for the theory subjects, the vivas conducted in the college (after the completion of every 2 to 3 chapters) made the struggling part a lot easier. Thus I could focus on the theory as well as on the non-theory subjects. Similarly, the class tests and assignments helped me break the ice with the unknown concepts.

  • Can you share some insights on how to crack the subjects before exams?

See if you open your books just a few weeks or a month before the exam, it’ll not help. You need to know what is in the portion in order to crack a subject. I had this habit of noting down the sub-points of all the answers from the chapters in a separate book so that it could be referred to during the exams as a last minute revision.

Case studies are nothing but the twisted version of a particular concept. If you know what the case is about, you’ve cracked it. That is the reason I am focusing more on “being conceptual” from the very beginning.

The only special way of writing the answers in the exam that I’ve learned is of writing each and every answer either in paragraphs or in points.

Every subject has its own technicality that has to be dealt with.

  • Like for International Finance and Operations Research, I would recommend practicing them from the very beginning. Practicing is the only solution that will help. IAPM has limited practical chapters and is a bit easier.

  • International Marketing and Entrepreneurship– they require more focus on the conceptual aspects because they are loaded with concepts. I could possibly study them by getting to know each chapter at its core and then noting down the sub points for each answer and thereafter focusing more only on those sub-points.

  • I was more comfortable with Indian Management thoughts and Practices as it required me to put my own views on the paper during the exam.

  • Do you think BMS student require coaching classes or is self-study enough? Had you joined any coaching class for a particular subject?

I would recommend joining either a coaching class or a private coaching for the practical/technical subjects.

I undertook coaching for Operations Research, International Finance and Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management.

  • Did you pursue any additional courses/ internships alongside BMS? or Did you participate in college fests or extra-curricular activities?

Yes, I did pursue a Diploma in Entrepreneurship Management from the Welingkar Institute and a Business English Certificate Course (vantage) conducted by Cambridge University across the globe.

I even attended a few seminars on Globalization trends and Entrepreneurship which gave a direction to my career.

  • Today, we often come across students committing suicide out of failure, depression or tension of exams. What do you have to say about this? Did you use any special techniques for stress management?

When there is a goal to be achieved, there is a great scope for people to fall prey to stress. My family and friends are my strength. So talking to them and getting positive advice helped me tackle my stress easily. What I have learned during the process is that – “at the end what matters is not the outside world, but it is one’s own family, relatives and friends”.

Students fall prey to exam stress but they forget that there is more to life than just the exams. My advise to the depressed/tensed students would be that they should keep calm and smile at every hurdle in life (it makes life easier) and to not make any important decision without consulting one’s family, friends or teachers.

  • What message would you like to give to the next batch of BMS students?

Study hard and excel in everything you do. It doesn’t matter where you come from or where you study. It is the knowledge that stays forever. It all depends on the choices you make. One should not be demotivated by any kind of failure, instead one should learn from it and bounce back smiling.

  • What are the future plans post BMS?

Currently I am preparing for my MBA entrance exams and I aspire to be an entrepreneur.

I must thank BMS.co.in for the set of mock questions that were of utter importance. Even the interviews have helped me make certain decisions pertaining to my career. I would recommend the readers to keep themselves updated with the website as it is of great help.
