Interview with Pallavi Yogesh Thanekar, TYBMS Sem 5 Topper 2013-14, Ghanshyamdas Saraf college who scored 70%  and GPA Score – 6.78

How does it feel to be a Topper in the university exams? Whom will you credit your success to? What was your success mantra?

Ans. The feeling of being the topper of your college is something out of the world. All the teachers suddenly start to notice you and identify you by name of the “topper”. It feels something special when all your friends call you “topper” all the time.

I would like to give the credit of my success to my mother and father. They always motivate me to give my best performance during the exams. My mother gave me all the required amount of time for studies.

I will not say that I have any success manta. But it is important to concentrate on the all the subjects equally.

Did you prepare any timetable and please share your study strategy/exam tips to crack each subject of sem 5?

Ans. Yes, one must prepare the timetable. My advice will be, prepare the timetable but do not schedule the timetable with timing. Just allocate which subjects to study on which date. And any how complete the target set as per the timetable then only one will be able to study all the subjects completely. Keep on noting important points while studying theory subjects, it will help for quick revision during exam days.

Do you think BMS student require coaching classes or is self-study enough? Had you joined any coaching class for a particular subject?

Ans. Yes I have joined coaching class. The class’s name is “Vipin Saboo tutorials”. I have joined classes for 2 subjects, ‘financial management’ and ‘logistics & supply chain management’.

And yes you need to join class at least for subject called FM, because if you are not comfortable with the method of teaching of your college’s professor then there is an option with you to adopt for some another method.

In sem.5 these 2 subjects are such in which people get maximum KT’s so you cannot take a chance by studying these 2 by yourself.

The most recommended text book for logistics subject is written by my classes’ professor, Prof. Vipin Saboo. And I must say he teaches both the subjects really very well.

My college’s professors were also very good.

You need not to join classes for any of the theory subjects. One can manage it by themselves.

What was your specialization subject? Why did you opt for it?

Ans. I had opt for E-commerce as it is a very general topic so I thought that this will be the easy subject to study and the burden of studying one more subject will be reduced.

You really need not to study with extra efforts for this subject. It is really a basic subject especially for youngsters like us.

Earlier I wanted to opt for the subject called special studies in finance but then prof. vipin saboo guided me that I should opt for e-commerce and I did that. And now I feel that, this decision of mine was very much correct. I scored 80 on 100 in e-commerce.

E-commerce’s paper was the easiest paper in whole sem.5 university exam of 2013.

Can you list the textbooks you referred for all subjects?

  • Financial management – vipul prakashan by Arvind Dhond
  • Logistics and supply chain management – vipul prakashan by Vipin Saboo
  • E-commerce – vipul prakashan
  • Human resource management – rishabh publication by sunny fernandies
  • Business ethics and corporate social responsibility – vipul publication by Vipin Saboo
  • Service sector management – rishabh publication by sunny fernandies

Which was your worst paper? Why? Which was your best paper? Why?

Ans. There was nothing like totally worst paper. Just a little bit difficult paper at our time was of business ethics. It was difficult because which all questions I had dropped that had came into the paper but I had attempted all the questions. The strategy I used in the exams to deal with the difficult paper is just write what you know don’t keep your paper blank.

My best paper was of financial management paper. It was good for me because I love practical subjects and m quiet good in practical subjects. I scored 51 on 60 in that paper. It was really a difficult paper for others. It was the most difficult paper of sem.5 university exam 2013.

Today, we often come across students committing suicide out of failure, depression or tension of exams. What do you have to say about this? Did you use any special techniques for stress management?

Ans. Yes it is really a bad thing to commit a suicide out of failure, depression or tension.

Life always gives another chance to overcome your weaknesses and failure. So here also you get a second chance to clear your exam and prove yourself at that time. Committing suicide is not the solution for any problem in fact it increases the tension and stress of others.

No there is no special technique for stress management. I think you should enjoy studying then stress will not come to you. Without thinking of your results you should study to the best of your strength.

The Black Book project contributing a significant part to the percentage, please share the experiences you had during the preparation of the project and how has it benefited you.

Ans. The black book project is one of the most important parts of sem.5. Yes it does affect your final marks percentage. I will suggest that choose the topic very consciously and on which you will be able to do research very easily. And it is better if you do your project by yourself and not copy it from someone else’s project. It will help you at the time of personal viva.

It is really easy to score in black book project. But for this you need to prepare your project by yourself.

While preparing the project make it very interesting with charts, graphs, pictures, etc. and give special attention to formatting of the project.

Did you pursue any additional courses/ internships alongside BMS? What are your future  plans?

Ans. Yes. When I was in f.y. I was studying for CPT examination which is an entrance exam for C.A. I cleared it in first attempt. And immediately registered for IPCC exam and started studying for that.

My future plans will be completing my C.A and then maybe I will appear for M.B.A

Any tips and advises for your juniors?

Ans. The main tip I want to give my juniors is that if you are not able to write the answers then it is not a big issue just do not leave your answer paper blank.

It is not very difficult semester to pass but do not take it lightly.

Even if u fail, just remember that u have another chance to prove yourself.

All the best and do well.
