An Interview with Amreen Qureshi, TYBMS Sem 5 Topper, J.M. Patel College, Goregaon (68%)

  • Tell us about yourself.

My name is Amreen who was not interested to study before 10th std but after taking BMS got interest in studies. In school life, I never got good marks but when I joined BMS, I got 3rd rank which made me feel that BMS is the course made for me and I can do something in this field only to make a new career.

  • Were you expecting to top in the exams? To whom would you credit this success to?

Life is not easy to survive in the global world. Something like this happened with me. You might have heard of the dialogue from 3 idiots “Jab dost fail ho jaaye toh dukh hota hai lekin jab woh humse aage jaaye toh aur bhi dukh hota hai”. From FYBMS to TYBMS, I had few friends who were quite selfish “matlabi” and were not happy with my results. They used to say “I am teacher’s favorite and I get more marks” all these rubbish talks but I did not take their harsh words seriously. Infact I thought I will have to prove them wrong. I also helped my friends so that they can also top in the exams. My close friends Anwar and Ranjeet are like “diamonds” for me because they have helped me all the time in IT.

  • Did you prepare religiously from day One or A few weeks before the exams?

I didn’t start from day one but was in touch with studies because there is Internals – 40 marks. For 60 marks externals, prepare a timetable and start studying before 1 month of exams. It’s not easy until we try. I gave 3-4 hours daily to accounts and maths.

  • Can you share some insights on how to crack the subjects before exams?

Make one book where all important points of the answer are written. Make a note of all the difficult words and byheart. Read the questions in the case study and relate it with the learnings in the subject.

  • Do you think BMS student require coaching classes or is self-study enough? Had you joined any coaching class for a particular subject?

It depends on college how they teach us in practicals. For 2 years, I didn’t take any coaching class. But in 3rd year, I had enrolled for Operation Research classes as I am weak in Maths so I don’t want to take any risks. Till SYBMS, I scored 86% without classes so it depends on the individual completely.

  • Did you participate in college fests or extra-curricular activities? Do you think a BMS student can manage both studies and extra activities?

Enjoy each and everything because yehi din hai mamu zindagi ke, ab nahi toh phir kab. I participated in college festivals and extra curricular activities like Extension project of University. I am Student Manager from 3 years of the Extension project and guide all students.

  • Today, we often come across students committing suicide out of failure, depression or tension of exams. What do you have to say about this? Did you use any special techniques for stress management?

Please don’t commit suicide because zindagi na milegi dobara. Life is a very special gift of God. For stress management I go to beach, relax, sing old songs and dance. Dream that you want to be in top and earn good marks. Meditation also helps.

  • Do you think the number of Industrial visits should be increased for BMS Students? Which industries have you visited?

I have visited industries like Jaipur Milk, Kargil wires, Parle G, Sumoto etc. and I feel it increases more practical knowledge.

  •  Do you think BMS students are flooded with assignments, projects and internal exams round the clock? What changes would you like to bring in the BMS Curriculum?

Yes ofcourse. Time to time we have to do each and everything which is not an easy job. Rabji had helped us. The changes in the BMS curriculum is that we want is remove the sword which is hanging on the neck and give students enough time to studies. Also we should be preferred first than other B.Com grads. We are paying 4 times fees more than other courses and also give 2 exams in a year, study 12 subjects and moreover prepare for internals, projects, presentations etc.

  • What message would you like to give to the next batch of BMS students?

“Rote huye aate hai sab, haste huwe woh jaayega, who mukadar ka sikandar dost mere kehlayega”.

Enjoy life and face problems as a game.

  • What are the future plans post BMS?

I want to do Masters in Management Studies (MMS) and work as a lecturer in colleges is my dream.

  • Any Feedback/Suggestions for BMS.co.in?

“Help some students who suffer a lot like me”
