Life isn’t a straight line. You can’t figure it out today how’s going to be in 1, 5, 10 or 20 years time regardless if you think you can. You might have a basic idea (by this time graduation, by that time getting a job, by that time an apartment, by X time getting a family….).
Today you might think “later will be better” a kind of “the grass of the neighbor is greener than mine” but you won’t never know if later on, you’ll have a enjoyable time. It’s simply one of those things one can never guess. There are a few things we can’t control in life. Luckily. Than what to do? Focus on the things you can control. Like what? You. Focus on yourself. On your thinking.
Its on you, and I’ll repeat this a few times.
We all have ups and downs, we all go through periods on our lives that we seem a bit lost or empty. For some of us it comes quite early, for others much later. there’s no pattern.
Be yourself. Don’t try to “fit in” or be part of a tribe. Be genuine and authentic. Find your purpose and passions. Don’t try to fall trends and superficial relations. Want to have 1000 friends in Facebook and X likes on photos doing stupid things? Remember the old saying “People spend money they don’t have, to buy things they don’t need, to impress people they don’t like”. Sound familiar?
True friends are rare. Indeed. You may just be trying too hard at things to make friends with people whom you are not on the same wavelength with. Or you can work on your social skills, like the vast majority of people.
Is it ok not to have true friends at this instant in time? Why not? Those people you will eventually meet who you are actually going to have something in common with will be that much more special.
Does life get content and enjoyable, ever? It all depends on your personal perspective. I suppose if you were stranded as a prisoner of war soaked to the neck in stagnant water and bitten by mosquitoes all day long and beaten, and then you were rescued, you would find every moment of your being to be content and enjoyable thereafter (or you may turn into a crazy old curmudgeon).
At some point in your life, you may hit bottom and things may get worse from here, or it may not. If you get to see more of the world in the future, you may conclude that being able to attend college and being able to be rejected by people at a party is a luxury that the majority of people in 3rd world countries do not have.
Ultimately, it is up to you to decide where you fit in the greater scheme of the world. If it requires you to be sociable, learn from those who are successful. Those who are genuinely successful and nice, might actually give you some insights if you would just ask.
Read good books, and shift your thoughts. We are what we think.
Below are some books that helped me shift to a positive and constructive mindset. It doesn’t happen overnight and by itself. You have work to do.
You might read hundreds of them but if you expect changes will manifest by themselves, than it will be a wasted opportunity.
