keep calm n read bms reports

TOI last Saturday published an article on how things were going on in the University and to what extent the case had progressed with regard to the much publicized Financial Management paper fiasco (http://bit.ly/OcpJU4 ). The huge problem came up when BMS students could not understand what exactly they meant and came to us for simplification.

So as always, www.bms.co.in is doing what we love and helping out all BMSites in need by simplifying the entire matter for you. We all are well aware of how the FM paper was set up exceptionally tough and how strict corrections with incorrect answer books provided to examiners ensured that majority of us got single digit figures as our marks.

Various solutions have been contemplated by the University out of which the one that sounded most plausible was to allot a certain sum of marks to all the students who have attempted the FM paper, irrespective of whether they have passed or failed. After that even those who have scored in single digits will come up to a level where they can apply for revaluation.

Once they reach that stage the, ordinance 0.5045A would come to their rescue. It states that if a candidate fails in one course, having passed in all others, the deficiency of marks in such head of passing may be condoned by not more than 1% of the aggregate marks of the exam or 10% of the total marks of the course in which he/she has failed, whichever is less.

Let’s simplify this with an example:

The university agrees on giving all students (irrespective of pass or fail) who have attempted the FM paper a sum of 10 marks over and above whatever you have scored, so in case a student X had scored 10 marks in his paper his total with the added 10 comes to 20.

Now he needs 4 marks to pass, these 4 marks can be obtained under ordinance 0.5045A according to which if a student has passed in all subjects except the FM paper then the will be given up to 6 marks grace (4 in student X’s case)  i.e 10% of the 60 marks of the FM paper, and will help the student pass.

*Please keep in mind that this was just an example provided so that you can understand what plans have been proposed, no such plans have been yet approved by the University.

As a BMS student, we recommend you stay in touch with the entire happening on this issue so that you can be well aware of your FM paper’s status and the fact whether you shall have to appear for KT’s or not.
