Swami Vivekananda's Teachings

Swami Vivekananda, one of the important people of India, is known for his thoughts, for his intelligence and for his works. He is the person who showed glorious ways to live our life and achieve our goals without getting demoralized and cheating. His beliefs has inspired not only Indians, but also people whom he met and who heard about him outside India.

Swami Vivekananda, born on 12th January, 1863, Narendra Nath Datta, was an Indian Hindu monk and chief disciple of the 19th-century saint Ramakrishna. He was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world and is credited with raising interfaith awareness, bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion during the late 19th century. He was a major force in the revival of Hinduism in India, and contributed to the concept of nationalism in colonial India.  Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission. He is perhaps best known for his inspiring speech which began, “Sisters and brothers of America …,” in which he introduced Hinduism at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893.

Being a great inspirer of Indian Youth, his birthday is also celebrated as the National Youth Day.

Swami Vivekananda's Teachings

Here are some of his teachings which we all, being youngsters, should always remember:

1) Always have best thoughts. This will lead you to climb the stairs of success.
“We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.”

2) Work for your own satisfaction and not for getting a “name” and earning popularity.
“Calm and silent and steady work, and no newspaper humbug, no name-making, you must always remember.”

3) Always keep your goal in front of you, keep working and never stop your struggle to achieve that goal.
“Arise, awake and stop not until the goal is achieved.”

4) Always have faith in yourself.
“Know that every time you feel weak, you not only hurt yourself but also the cause. Infinite faith and strength are the only conditions of success.”

5) Have courage and make yourself strong enough to solve all your problems easily.
Say, “This misery that I am suffering is of my own doing, and that very thing proves that it will have to be undone by me alone.”->Vivekananda

This last quote speaks out everything which he wants us all to understand- “Go on bravely. Do not expect success in a day or a year. Always hold on to the highest. Be steady. Avoid jealousy and selfishness. Be obedient and eternally faithful to the cause of truth, humanity, and your country, and you will move the world.”
