Mr. Rahul Tapadiya, Chairman of Tapadiya Auto Limited, has just returned from his trip to the U.S. He visited the leading car and scooter manufacturers of the west and had many interesting and useful observations on the western performance plans planning tools and performance indices. He found that the tools and indices are very flexible, all inclusive and most modern. Shop-floor employees used PERT, CPM and Bar Charts for work completion. The managers frequently use Resource mobilization and Resource allocation Models.
He also observed that professional parameters are used as ‘performance indices’. Performance Indicators work as control devices and also aid in determining the penalty and reward for the performers.
Mr. Tapadia is now convinced that no work plan could be effective, if qualitative and quantitative performances are not clearly defined. Even productivity becomes absurd if there is no performance planning to use the available productivity.
He has now decided to ask the departmental heads and top executives to submit their suggestions on optimal planning tools techniques and performance indices. He knows that integrated growth of the organization depends on the managers who understand that they do not plan to fail but they fail to plan most things.
Q.
1) Explore the possibilities of new and innovative planning tools and techniques.
2) What should be the ‘optimal performance indices’ that are useful in all possible situations:
3) What difficulty do you find in adopting the western culture and style of performance planning in India?
