Co-ordinator’s Talk : Prof. S. J. Gujarathi…interviewed by : Jasveen Kaur
Name- Prof. S. J. Gujarathi
College- R. A. Podar College of Commerce and Economics.
Tell us something about yourself-
I have been offering my service since 35 years to this college. BMS started in 2006 in our college and since then, I’ve been inculcating students for the same.
Tell us something about your college-
To start with it is ranked the best college by Mumbai University. It has received the best college award by Xaviers College. R. A. Podar College has been accredited as an ‘A’ grade college with 3.63 CGPA (cumulative grade point average) on a four point scale which is the Highest CGPA obtained by any affiliated college in the state of Maharashtra as on 27th march 2011.
In additional educational practice, for FYBMS students, on-the-job training is made compulsory in summer. Also, for the SYBMS reasearch project, each student is given an entirely different topic on ordinary sector which starts from collecting primary information to confirm originality.
When did you join this profession? What inspired you to chose this line?
I joined this profession on 5th July, 1977. Teaching is a passion and the enormous overall amount of job satisfaction that I receive from it is inexplicable.
As a Coordinator, do you also teach any subjects? If yes, which subjects you teach and which you love the most?
Yes, I teach Env. Mgt to FYBms, Reasearch Methodology to SYBms and Business Ethics and Indian Management Thought and Practices for TYBms students. I perceive Env Mgt and Research Methodology to be subjects that I love the most as I did my post-graduation in Geography and M. Phil in Research.
How are the roles and responsibilities of a Coordinator different from that of a
faculty? Do you like being a Faculty or a Coordinator? Which helps you to connect
more with students?
It is basically required to coordinate the faculties. Any difficulties, student grievences, attendance, farewell, workshops, events, IVs, infrastructure, overall needs of students, etc. have to be looked upon as a Co-ordinator. Both are equally appreciated by me. Also, in our college, be it co-ordinator or faculty, all are colleagues and each and everyone’s point of view is considered in order to grow together as a whole.
Tell us something about your college fests/events and extra-curicular activities?
The special feature of BMS is Yoga compulsory to FY, SY and the TY students on which a book is maintained carrying 10 marks which is included. Yoga teacher offers counselling for each and every student overall development is worked upon and personal problems are reached out to.
What is the mission/aim of the college?
Nahi Jnanena Sadhrsham Pavitram Iha Vidyate ||
This line is from The Bhagavat Gita and it means that “Certainly, there is no purifier in this world like ‘Knowledge’.” And it is something we have our utmost faith in.
And of course, ‘One in Mind, One in Heart’ is our mission and also our vision. R. A. Podar College believes in “Nurturing Intellects, Creating Personalities”.
What are the prospects after BMS?
Usually it is MBA/MMS or jobs.
What message would you like to give to BMS students?
Whatever you take in hand, do it sincerely. Excel. Put in all your heart. Give it your 100%. Don’t bother about the results, if you do it with all your heart, its going to be great.
