Q.2) case study- “ shweta darshini “                                                                                                         (15)

Shweta was the only daughter of her parents. Her parents settled in Mysore. Karnataka, for the last 25 years, ran “shweta darshini”, a vegetarian eating joint, in front of a group of colleges. The darshini was open from 7 am to 10 am and again from 12 pm to 5 pm. It provided delicious, hygienically prepared vegetarian items to its clients, mostly college staff and students. Shweta also helped her parents after her law classes and took a keen interest in business.

After graduating in law, shweta got married to Suresh, an MBA graduate working as business executive in local firms. Shweta’s parent wanted a son-in-law. Who would help shweta run “shweta-darshini”. They felt that their business could really flourished if their son-in-law joint their business.suresh also found the proposal interesting and was ready to join the business since it was doing very well. However, Suresh was quick to point out that the contemporary concept of a “darshini” had changed. He suggested introduction of non-vegetarian items and beer bar. However, Suresh being professional declared that he would carry out a market research. He would segment the market and test markets the product before taking any drastic steps. There was also a suggestion to invest in proper advertising.

Shweta’s father, being intelligent and enterprising businessperson, exhibited clear vision. He expected Suresh’s views, in principle, but insisted that clear plan can be prepared. The plan should give the rationale behind each step, the cost and time required for implementing that step, anticipated income from the activity and other such details before Suresh’s proposals could be considered for implementation or work rejected.
