  • Tell us more about yourself.

I am Juili Ballal. My hobbies include playing cricket, musical instruments like guitar and synthesizer and reading books especially self – help books. I have played cricket at All-India university level for 2 years. I love playing different sports and feel that sports is rejuvenating and helps you to concentrate in your studies as well.

  • Were you expecting to top in the exams? To whom would you credit this success to?

Frankly speaking, I was not expecting to top in the exams. But, somewhere deep down in my heart I wanted to top in the final exam of my graduation. The credit for my success goes to my parents who always stood by me, my teachers who were excellent in imparting knowledge and of course my friends and peers.

  • Did you prepare religiously from day One or A few weeks before the exams?

I started preparing myself for the exam a good one and a half month before the exam. BMS curriculum is such that you end up studying for sometime everyday. So you don’t need to panic at the eleventh hour.

  • How did you allot time to different subjects?

Yes. I followed a self-made timetable. I practiced ‘Operations Research’, ‘International Finance’ and ‘Econometrics’ sums everyday. Theory subjects are not that big worries. You can easily finish studying 1 theory subject in 1 week. On an average I studied for 3 hours in a day.

  • Can you share some insights on how to crack the subjects before exams?

Perfect practice makes a man perfect. Therefore, it is pivotal for you to practice the practical subjects everyday. This will give you a lot of confidence.

I did not use any reference books. I followed only the textbooks by Vipul / Himalaya publications. They will suffice all your needs.
For case studies, it is important to read the case study first and understand it at the same time. You should be then able to relate the case study with the topics that you have already studied. Once you do this cracking the case study is extremely easy.
For writing answers, make sure you write all your answers in POINTS. This gives a very good impression and there is a possible chance that the examiner will give you extra marks for your presentation of answers.
  • Do you think BMS student require coaching classes or is self-study enough? Had you joined any coaching class for a particular subject?

I think  self-study is enough for BMS students. Though, they can think of joining coaching classes for practical subjects like Operations Research.

I had joined coaching class for 2 subjects – Operations Research and International Finance.
There is 1 advantage of coaching classes – you get to write more and more tests.
  • Did you participate in college fests or extra-curricular activities? Do you think a BMS student can manage both studies and extra activities?

Yes. I was actively involved in extra-curricular activities of college. I represented my college in inter-collegiate cricket, softball and baseball tournaments.

I was also the General Secretary of BMS and conducted the inter – collegiate festival last year.
I think BMS students can very well manage both, studies and extra activities. Being jack of all trades is the need of the hour. So, every BMS student must make sure that s/he actively participates in extra-curricular activities.
  • Did you pursue any additional courses/ internships alongside BMS?

No, I did not pursue any additional courses/ internships alongside BMS.

  • Today, we often come across students committing suicide out of failure, depression or tension of exams. What do you have to say about this? Did you use any special techniques for stress management?

It is very disappointing to know about the suicides committed by today’s youth because of stress and depression.

Doing what you like is the best stress-buster. For instance, if you enjoy listening to songs or playing cricket or reading books, go ahead doing these things. I am sure you will be highly rejuvenated when you do things of your choice.
To combat my stress, I read a lot of self-help books(for example – ‘The Secret’) and played guitar.
  • Do you think the number of Industrial visits should be increased for BMS Students? Which industries have you visited?

No. I think 1 industrial visit per year is sufficient for BMS students. Industrial visits give you a abundant practical knowledge which is not possible to acquire in the four walls of the classroom.

I visited  industries like – Amul, Havmor, UAP Pharma, CEAT, Coco-cola and Khaitan fans, in my 3 years of graduation.
  •   Do you think BMS students are flooded with assignments, projects and internal exams round the clock? What changes would you like to bring in the BMS Curriculum?

I don’t think that the BMS students are flooded with assignments, projects and internal exams round the clock. By having projects, assignments etc. the college is actually preparing its students for their future. This is just a grand rehearsal of the actual show.

But I would like to bring certain changes in project presentations. Students should not be made to write the hard copy of the presentation. Instead a print out should be allowed.
Also, I feel the internal exams conducted should be objective based.
Assignments should be replaced with vivas.
  • What message would you like to give to the next batch of BMS students?

I would like to tell the next batch of BMS students that take interest in the extra-curricular activities happening in your college, because this is the last chance when you will actually get time to actively participate in the activities. You need to be JACK OF ALL TRADES. That is the need of the hour. Be relaxed while studying and when you are studying make sure you are not distracted by anything. Take help of your teachers in anything and everything that you want to know. Give your presentations sincerely, write your tests well, study hard and leave the rest to the God.

If you are planning to do MMS/PGDM, then start preparing yourself for the entrance tests(CAT, CMAT etc.)
All the best!
  • What are the future plans post BMS?

I will be pursuing PGDBM(Post graduate diploma in business management) from N.L.Dalmia Institute of Management Studies and Research, Mumbai. After the completion of my post graduation I will be working in corporate sector and at the same time will prepare for NET/SET. Passing the NET/SET will make me eligible to teach the students of degree colleges. I would like to be a teacher in the near future.
